Handa’s Surprise in our classroom!

This month we are starting to work with the story Handa’s Surprise, originally written and illustrated by Eileen Browne.

We are using a classroom adaptation of the original story. We have kept the heart of the story, but we have made some small changes in the vocabulary and parts of the text so it is easier to understand for our mixed-age class (3–5 years old).

Some fruits were adapted to words that are closer to our children’s everyday world, and we simplified some sentences so everyone can follow the story, participate and enjoy it — from the youngest to the oldest.

We turned it into a more dramatic and interactive version, so the children can:

• move like the animals
• repeat key structures
• guess what happens next
• and feel part of the story

This is just the beginning!

Este mes imos comezar a traballar co conto Handa’s Surprise, de Eileen Browne. Estamos a usar unha adaptación de aula que mantén a esencia da historia, pero simplifica o vocabulario e algúns partes do texto para facelo máis accesible aos nenos de 3 a 5 anos. Adaptamos algúns froitos e expresións para que se acheguen máis ao seu contorno e sexa máis fácil de entender.

Transformámolo nunha versión máis activa para que o alumnado poida participar, repetir estruturas e anticipar o que vai pasar na historia.
