Autumn project review

Winter is here again! But Autumn left in kindergarten a wide variety of fun activities, crafts, songs , TPR activities and a colourful story called “Brown Bear, What do you see?”

O inverno xa voltou pero o outono nos deixou unha chea de actividades, cancións e un maravilloso conto titulado “Brown Bear, What do you see?”

2018-12-22_1928Based on an Eric Carle’s story published in 1967, I designed this story to help children associate colours and meaning to objects through colourful pictures and a simple repetitive language. This rhythmic story is a perfect introduction to looking and learning about colours, numbers, animals and other common fall things.

After working with this book, my children were able to tell the story and sing the song by their own. It was fantastic!

This project offers a wide range of math, literary skills, working across the curriculum to incorporate play, imagination and art.

Spot goes to school

We are back to school again and, sometimes new students don’t feel confident on his first day. Spot Goes to School,a classic Spot book by Eric Hill, gives teachers the opportunity to deal with this important issue going through several emotions on Spot’s first day .

9780141343785Spot Goes to School is a lovely lift the flap board book which introduces some of the activities that take place in a school, the vocabulary related to school objects, instructions, greetings and goodbyes, and so on.

“The Secret Name”, an idea from Heidi Songs, is our first kindergarten project this year.  It’s a quick and fun project that is just perfect for the beginning of the school year, and there is almost no prep at all! You only have to write your kid’s name on a white cardstock using  a white  watercolor crayon resist (Crayola brand)and then, let your children paint once the white cardstock with liquid water colours(from Discount School Supply). Their names show up. It’s MAGIC!

INFANTIL/PRESCHOOL

New school year, new stories

“Spot goes to school” by Eric Hill

“Go away, Big Green Monster” by Ed Emberley

“Brown Bear, Brown Bear. What do you see?” by Eric Carle

“Father Christmas needs a wee” by Nicholas Adam

The First Day of Winter

índiceLast Friday, we could see the first snowflakes falling down. It was an amazing and freezing day!!! So, I decided to take the opportunity to present  a new book called “The first day of winter” by Denise Fleming to my kindergarteners which helps us review numbers and colours and introduce some winter clothings.

Ed Emberley has created an ingenious way for children to chase away their nighttime fears. Kids can turn the pages of this die-cut book índiceand watch the Big Green Monster grow. Then, when they’re ready to show him he can’t scare them, they’ll turn the remaining pages and watch him disappear! You only have to shout: GO AWAY!!!Ed Emberley creou unha maneira moi enxeñosa para espantar os medos noctunos do máis cativos.

What Is This Thing Called Love?
by Davide Cali & Anna Laura Cantone

loveWhat is this thing called love? What colour is it and what shape? Is it sweet or savoury? Is it big or small?

Like a lot of kids, Emma would really like to know.
The problem is: everyone Emma asks—Mum, Dad, Grandma and Grandad—seems to have a different idea of what love is.Can love really be in a piece of cake or a game of football?

imagesGuess how much I love you

by Sam Mc Bratney

250px-Guess_How_Much_I_Love_You_Cover_Art“Guess how much I love you,” says Little Nutbrown Hare. Little Nutbrown Hare shows his daddy how much he loves him: as wide as he can reach and as far as he can hop.But Big Nutbrown Hare loves him as far as his long arms can reach and as high as his strong legs can hop. And so they continue trying to measure how much they love each other.

Adiviña canto te quero, di a pequena lebre.

Christmas readings

71ye9Dl3fBL._AA300_Dream Snow by Eric Carle                                                         It’s Christmas Eve, and an old farmer settles down for nap, wondering how Christmas can come when it hasn’t snowed yet. The farmer falls asleep and in his dream, he imagines snowflakes covering him and his animals. He awakens to discover it really has snowed. A surprise at the end of the book makes this a truly magical Christmas.

The artist who painted a blue horse

If you don’t know the name  Eric Carle, I’m sure you know his work. He’s the author and illustrator of more than 70 children’s books, including The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?

………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

New Eric Carle’s book, The Artist Who Painted a Blue Horse, is an homage to the Expressionist painter Franz Marc. The child in the book paints a number of animals with unconventional colors and he declares “I am an artist…..” As the child, Eric Carle paints the world as he sees it- a red crocodile, an orange elephant, a purple fox or a wonderful polka-dotted

This is a book that celebrates imagination and the artist within us all.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

My 3-years-old became artists thanks to this incredible story. They spent a great time listening the story and drawing their blue horse. Now, each time we read the story, they declare…
“I am an artist”
