AND DON’T FORGET…..#staysafestayapart

Miss Spring stayhome activities

Over the last two weeks I have received many of the proposals designed for kindergarten students to go through this forced confinement in the most enjoyable way possible. I just want to say that each and every one of the activities I received far exceeded my expectations, and I have no choice but to deeply thank the involvement of the families despite these hard times.

Here you have a summary of these activities.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

We can read

Learning to read in first and second languages can be a little big challenge for teachers and pupils and, sometimes, this can be something frustrating.

Starting reading familiar words and simple short sentences is a good idea in first grade primary because some children are still developing reading skill in their first language. This year I am using word cards as a new routine to develop reading in my English lessons. In my opinion, this routine has some benefits:

-Children don’t feel bored while reading.

-Introduce reading as a game motivate them.

-Children with reading difficulties enjoy and benefit from reading this way because the level of difficulty progressively increases, which gives students the confidence that they need to be able to start and progress in their reading.

In my opinion, it is a easy way to introduce reading in early ages in English lessons and children have fun at the same time.

-O uso do xogo aumenta a súa motivación cara a lectura.

So, students in level 3 looked up words related to Peace; students in level 4 wrote down what they can do for Peace and how Peace makes them feel; students in level 5 decorated the dove shapes with the symbols of Peace and, finally, students in level 6 wrote peace acrostics.

Comic Books about Daily Routines

Book Day was celebrated last 23rd April and, as every year, we decided to commemorate this special date in the English Corner Classroom. Students in level 4 were thinking about what they could do and finally they planned to create a comic book about their daily routines. Why not?

Poetry Day 2013

imagesWorld Poetry Day is on 21 March, and was declared by UNESCO (the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) in 1999. The purpose of the day is to promote the reading, writing, publishing and teaching of poetry throughout the world.

World Poetry Day is an opportunity for children to be introduced to poetry in classrooms. It is a time when classrooms are busy with lessons related to poetry, in which students examine poets and learn about different types of poetry. This year, we decided to dedicate this day to Gloria Fuertes, a Spanish poet who wrote a great deal of poems for kids.

On this occasion we chose the poem  called “Los Reyes” because it has a vocabulary and a structure easy to understand and work with children: we started  translating and reciting the poem and finally each child wrote and illlustrated  a new verse to compose between all the pupils a different poem.
