Autumn adventure

Last week, we came across a wonderful book We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt by Steve Metzger and children enjoyed climbing a tall, tall mountain; going through a dark, dark forest; going around a swooshing, swooshing waterfall and rowing in a cold, cold lake. It was so exciting that we decided that we would have to explore too and find colourful leaves.

A semana pasada, decubrimos un marabilloso libro We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt  de Steve Metzger e os cativos gozaron escalando unha motaña moi alta: atravesando un escuro bosque;rodeando unha rumorosa fervenza e vogamos nun frío lago.

Before starting our adventure, we talked about how leaves change in autumn. It is a good opportunity to learn new colours and sizes in English.

And then the hunt was on! But we weren’t alone. Children in Level 6 helped us. We were so lucky!

Of couse, we had to learn them our leaf hunt chant.

E logo dou comezado a nosa pescuda!

Back to school, it was time for a fun easy autumn craft activity :LEAF RUBBIBG.

We needed fresh leaves, autumn colour wax crayons (red, yellow, orange, brown) and paper. Students placed leaves under a paper and rubbed the crayons back and forth on top of the paper where the leaves were placed (lay crayon flat). We were soon able to see the shape, stem, and veins of the leaves appear on the paper. It was trully magical!

We are so proud of our works of art that we displayed them in the corridor.

Quedamos tan orgullosos do noso traballo que fixemos unha pequena exposición no corredor .

Fall is a wonderful time of year to get out and explore the world around you!

The Very Hungry Caterpillar Song

One of the favorite authors in preschool classrooms is Eric Carle. His colorful illustrations and simple text make these books fun to read again and again.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar is a very special book!  It’s simple, engaging story and beautiful illustrations capture the imagination and inspire all sorts of creative learning activities. You can use this book to teach many different things: Life cycle of the butterfly, days of the week, food categories, healthy eating habits, counting and many more.

Young children can “read” this books for themselves, too, after hearing or singing it a few times .Here you have our “Caterpillar Song”:

Amazing maths! A new eTwinning project in Kindergarten

fullscreen_capture_992013_84652_am_optAmazing maths! Creating funny math activities in kindergarten is the new eTwinning project in which my kindergarteners are participating this school year together with other children from different European countries.

Do maths for maths has little interest. For this reason, all of the teachers who participate in this project want to play  with maths in a funny or artistic way and creating math activities for the others.

Amazing maths!

The theme for October and November is “Shapes are everywhere, let’s play with them (can be linked with Art)”

vassily-kandinskyMy students have just discovered that shapes are everywhere even in art. So during these months, we are going to work with a Russian artist called Wassily Kandinski, one of the founding fathers of Abstract Art.Kandinsky’s early paintings were landscapes that were heavily influenced by Impressionist artists . But about 1909 Kandinsky began to think that shapes and colours alone could be art. Kandinsky felt that he could express feelings and music through colours and shapes in his paintings.  The shapes he was most interested in were the circle, triangle, and the square. He thought the triangle would cause aggressive feelings, the square calm feelings, and the circle spiritual feelings.
PorBlue Painting by Wassily Kandinsky OSA468 iso, durante estes meses imos traballar cun artista ruso chamado Wassili Kandinsky, un dos pais do arte abstracto.
