If you are teaching how to talk about the weather, you can use our new spinner. It focuses on the vocabulary worked in our unit 3 : raining, sunny, snowing, foggy, windy, cloudy, hot and cold.
Students in Level 1 started making this spinner today. They traced, coloured and cut them, but previously, we practiced the new vocabulary with some oral games and singing this funny song. They enjoyed it! Do you dare to sing it along with us? Try it!
I love starting each lesson with a short routine , but I’m not always sure that the kids are listening and getting much out of it.So, this year we started using a calendar journal template daily to help me assess rather my students are understanding the calendar time. As the weeks progress, I realized that students understand the concepts and they feel confident enough to complete the calendar journal by themselves.
This simple sheet gives us a review of that days most basic skills and reinforce calendar and number skills.
Skills Assessed:
-Days of the Week
-Months of the Year
-Today’s Date
-Weather
-Letter Review and Writing
-Number Review and Writing
-Colour Review
-Feelings

I laminated as many templates as students in each level and they use liquid chalk markers to complete them.
Spring with its longer and warmer days is around the corner! But, winter has its own good things, too. One of these is to have fun playing in the snow and making snowmen with our friends or family. Why don’t enjoy winter at school?
That’s why, my 6th Grade Infants School worked this topic what allowed them to learn about feelings, weather, winter clothes, numbers, and so on, through poetry.
Here you have the final products of this brief school project.
Here you have the last activity of our Spring Project. As Spring is a good season to learn about weather, we use the story “The sun and the cloud” to learn why a rainbow appears in the sky. In adittion, this story ( Robby Rabbit 2-Macmillan) allows us to work in this issue in a fun way. Students read the story, watched the video, learnt some songs related to weather and chose one of the different roles of the tale in order to act out the story. We didn’t have enough time to rehearse the play all we wanted but we hope you enjoy it.
Spring is the perfect time of year to teach children about the rainbow.
A primavera é o momento perfecto do ano para falarlles aos cativos do arco da vella.
So last Monday, Miss Spring came to our classroom and told us that a long time ago, people thought rainbows were magical bridges across the sky full of colors andshe began a discussion by asking us a few questions to get us thinking:Have you ever seen a rainbow in the sky? What was the weather like when you saw a rainbow in the sky? Was it raining? Finally, Silvia explained us how a rainbow appears in the sky. Then Miss Spring read us a story called“The sun and the cloud”and taught us a short and fun song that will help us recognize the colors of the rainbow.
Do you want to sing along with us?
I can sing a rainbow” song written by Arthur Hamilton 1955. This video is intended for educational use.
I Can Sing A Rainbow Lyrics:
Red and yellow and pink and green
Purple and orange and blue
I can sing a rainbow,
sing a rainbow,
sing a rainbow too.
Listen with your eyes,
Listen with your eyes,
and sing everything you see,
Now you can sing a rainbow,
sing a rainbow,
sing along with me.
Snow(1998 Parents’ Choice Recommended)
Written and Illustrated by Uri Shulevitz
Farrar Straus & Giroux
Ages 3 – 7
“It’s snowing, said boy with dog.” “It’s only a snowflake,” said grandfather with beard.”
The sky is grey and it is very cold but, as snowflakes slowly come down, one by one, people in the city ignore them.Only a boy and his dog believe that it is going to snow.
Children love snow and this book really shows us how they trully enjoy a spectacular snowfall. This is a book about the weather and the joy it can bring.
After reading this wonderfull book, why don’t we sing this song? Along the way, children get learn and review parts of the body.
Little Snowflake Lyrics:
Snowflake, snowflake, little snowflake.
Little snowflake falling from the sky.
Snowflake, snowflake, little snowflake.
Falling, falling, falling, falling, falling,
falling, falling, falling, falling…falling on my head.
Snowflake, snowflake, little snowflake.
Little snowflake falling from the sky.
Snowflake, snowflake, little snowflake.
Falling, falling, falling, falling, falling,
falling, falling, falling, falling…falling on my nose.
Snowflake, snowflake, little snowflake.
Little snowflake falling from the sky.
Snowflake, snowflake, little snowflake.
Falling, falling, falling, falling, falling,
falling, falling, falling, falling…falling in my hand.
Falling on my head.
Falling on my nose.
Falling in my hand.
