Interview Race: Learning English through Fun and Games!

This week in 3rd grade, we had a super fun English activity: the Interview Race!
Our students became real reporters, asking questions and learning about their classmates’ hobbies.

In this activity, we learned how to ask and answer about likes and hobbies.
We practiced the question: “Do you like…?” and we answered with: “Yes, I do.” or “No, I don’t.”

It helped us speak in English and learn more about our classmates!

How did the activity work?

Each student had a special Interview Race Card.
They had 10 minutes to interview 3 classmates and ask them about their hobbies.
They asked questions like:

  • “Do you like dancing?”
  • “Do you like playing football?”
  • “Do you like reading books?”

After asking, they listened to the answers and wrote them on their card.
They needed to work fast, speak clearly, and listen carefully! 🧠👂

Gamification elements:

To make the activity exciting, we used:

  • ⏱️ A countdown timer (10-minute challenge!)
  • 🏅 A reward badge: Fast Talker Star!
  • 🌟 Points for using good English and being a good listener.

This helped students feel motivated, confident, and proud of using English in real communication.

Student reflection (Self-Assessment):

At the end, students completed a simple self-assessment using “I can…” sentences and they also shared how they felt.

Why this activity matters:

This type of learning is:

  • 🎯 Communicative – they use real English to talk with real people.
  • 🧩 Interactive – they move, speak, and think.
  • 🎉 Motivating – they feel like language detectives or reporters!

Students don’t just memorize structures — they use them with purpose and joy.
