City Builders Challenge

Learning English by building a city

In our English lessons, 3th Grade pupils are becoming city builders!
They work in pairs and read short texts in English to discover what buildings are in a city.

Nas sesións de inglés, o alumnado de 3º convértese en construtor de cidades.
Traballan en parellas e len pequenos textos en inglés para descubrir que edificios hai nunha cidade.

Each pair has two roles:

Reader: reads the text in English aloud.
City Builder: listens carefully and places the buildings on the map.

Every time pupils move up a level, they change roles, so everyone practises reading and listening skills.

Using a simple map and picture cards, pupils place the buildings they hear in the text. They also learn to pay attention and not place the buildings that are not in the city.

Cada parella ten dous roles:

Reader: le o texto en inglés en voz alta.
City Builder: escoita con atención e coloca os edificios no plano.

Cada vez que a parella sobe de nivel, intercambian os roles, para que todo o alumnado practique tanto a lectura como a comprensión oral.

Little by little, the texts become more challenging. Pupils start using connectors like and, but and or, which help them understand ideas that are connected, contrasted or chosen.

Each time a pair completes a text correctly, they move up a level and colour a star. This makes learning fun and motivating!

Coa axuda dun mapa sinxelo e tarxetas con imaxes, colocan os edificios que aparecen no texto e non colocan aqueles que non están.

Pouco a pouco, os textos van sendo máis complexos. Comezamos a usar conectores como and, but e or, que axudan a comprender mellor a información e a relación entre as ideas.

Cada vez que unha parella resolve correctamente un texto, sobe de nivel e colorea unha estrela. Así, a aprendizaxe convértese nun reto divertido e motivador.
