After the Christmas holidays, our first graders came back to school with lots of excitement. To help them reconnect with routines and learning, we started with a fun warm-up session based on games and learning stations.
Session objective
To refresh contents learnt before the holidays, especially vocabulary and simple oral structures related to school objects.
Learning through stations
The classroom was organised into three learning stations. Children worked in small groups and rotated through each station, learning by playing.
🔹 Station 1: Tic-Tac-Toe (Three in a Row)
- Vocabulary: school objects
- Structure: “It’s a…”
To place their mark, children had to say the word correctly.
🔹 Station 2: Kaboom Game
- Vocabulary: school objects
- Structure: “I’ve got…”
They picked a card, said the sentence aloud and… if they found “Kaboom”, the game restarted!
🔹 Station 3: Memory Game
- Vocabulary: school objects
Children found pairs while naming the objects out loud, improving memory and pronunciation.
Why games and stations?
Using games in stations helps children:
- Stay motivated and focused
- Practise spoken English naturally
- Learn at their own pace
- Enjoy a positive and meaningful return to school

Despois das vacacións de Nadal, o alumnado de primeiro regresou ás aulas con moitas ganas. Para retomar rutinas e aprendizaxes, comezamos cunha sesión inicial de quentamento baseada no xogo e nas estacións de aprendizaxe.
Obxectivo da sesión
Reactivar os contidos traballados antes das vacacións, especialmente o vocabulario de obxectos da escola e estruturas orais sinxelas.
Aprender por estacións
A aula organizouse en tres estacións de aprendizaxe. O alumnado, en pequenos grupos, foi pasando por cada unha delas.
🔹 Estación 1: Tres en raia
- Vocabulario: obxectos da escola
- Estrutura: “It’s a…”
Para xogar, tiñan que dicir correctamente a palabra en inglés.
🔹 Estación 2: Xogo Kaboom
- Vocabulario: obxectos da escola
- Estrutura: “I’ve got…”
Collían unha tarxeta, dicían a frase e, se aparecía “Kaboom”, comezaba de novo o xogo.
🔹 Estación 3: Memory game
- Vocabulario: obxectos da escola
Buscaban parellas mentres dicían as palabras en voz alta.
Por que xogamos para aprender?
O xogo e as estacións:
- Aumentan a motivación
- Favorecen a expresión oral
- Respectan os ritmos de aprendizaxe
- Axudan a vivir a volta ás aulas con confianza e ilusión
