A creative animal mural to learn the Present Continuous
Last week, our 3rd grade students took part in a super fun and creative activity to learn and practise the Present Continuous tense and animal vocabulary — and we did it in a very special way!
To make the learning process more engaging and meaningful, we combined English learning with digital creativity! The task was simple but powerful: each student had to create sentences in Present Continuous using animals as the main topic. For example:
🐘 “The elephant is drinking ”
🐵 “The monkey is climbing”
Then, we used Artificial Intelligence (AI) to generate images based on their imaginative sentences. The excitement was real! 😍
💡 After printing the images, we created a huge classroom mural. The students chose their favourite pictures — sometimes their own, sometimes a classmate’s — and wrote a sentence underneath each image using the Present Continuous. The mural became a colourful, lively gallery of their ideas. They were so proud to see their work on the wall!
To keep the motivation going, we also made reinforcement worksheets using the AI images. Because the visuals were based on their own ideas, students were more eager to complete the activities — they were learning with and from each other!
La semana pasada, los alumnos de 3º de primaria participaron en una actividad súper divertida y creativa para aprender y practicar el presente continuo y el vocabulario de los animales — ¡y lo hicimos de una manera muy especial!
Para que el proceso de aprendizaje fuera más motivador y significativo, combinamos el aprendizaje del inglés con la creatividad digital. La propuesta fue sencilla pero muy potente: cada alumno tenía que inventar una frase en presente continuo utilizando animales como tema principal.
Por ejemplo:
🐘 “¡El elefante está bailando en la selva!”
🐵 “¡El mono está tocando la guitarra!”
Después, utilizamos la Inteligencia Artificial (IA) para generar imágenes a partir de sus frases imaginativas. ¡La emoción en el aula fue increíble! 😍
💡 Una vez impresas las imágenes, creamos un gran mural en el aula. Los alumnos eligieron sus imágenes favoritas — a veces la suya, a veces la de un compañero — y escribieron una frase debajo de cada imagen usando el presente continuo. El mural se transformó en una galería llena de color, creatividad y orgullo.
Para seguir trabajando los contenidos y mantener el interés, creamos también fichas de refuerzo con las imágenes generadas. Estas fichas incluían ejercicios para completar frases, escribir oraciones y asociar imágenes con acciones. Al estar basadas en sus propias ideas, los alumnos se mostraron mucho más motivados para realizarlas: ¡aprendieron con y de sus compañeros!

This kind of experience helps children see English as a tool for real communication and expression — not just something to memorise. Plus, by bringing in digital tools like AI, we turn passive learning into active, exciting discovery!
Este tipo de experiencias ayuda a que los niños vean el inglés como una herramienta para comunicarse y expresarse de forma real, no solo como una asignatura más. Además, al incorporar herramientas digitales, el aprendizaje se convierte en una aventura activa y emocionante.
