A Sweet Learning Experience
Last week, our 6th-grade students enjoyed an English lesson where they learned to use “there is/there are,” “some,” and “any” through a fun baking activity. They worked in groups to see which ingredients they had and which ones they needed to make a cake!
A semana pasada, os nosos alumnos de 6º de primaria gozaron dunha doce e entretida lección de inglés practicando o uso de “there is/there are”, “some” e “any” cunha actividade práctica baseada na repostería.
A Recipe for Learning
To start, students were introduced to a simple cake recipe with common ingredients like flour, sugar, eggs, butter, milk, chocolate chips…. Each group received a set of ingredient cards, some of which were missing. Their task was to classify the ingredients into countable and uncountable categories and then form sentences using the correct grammar structures.
Interactive Group Work
In their groups, students discussed and filled out a table listing the ingredients they had (“There is some flour.”) and the ones they didn’t have (“There isn’t any jam.”). This encouraged teamwork, conversation, and critical thinking as they applied their knowledge in a meaningful context.

Nos seus grupos, os alumnos discutiron e cubriron unha táboa listando os ingredientes que tiñan (“There is some flour.” ) e os que non (“There isn’t any jam.” ).
Once their ingredient lists were ready, students shared their findings with the class.
