“Acción de grazas” é unha celebración de América do Norte. Ten lugar nos EEUU o cuarto xoves de cada mes de novembro e o segundo luns de outubro en Canadá. A maioría das persoas nos Estados Unidos reúnense coa familia para cear. A comida típica é pavo con salsa de cereixa negra, verduras, patacas, maíz, cabaza, etc e de postre pastel de mazá ou de pataca doce. Despois da comida, o típico é ver un partido de fútbol americano ou botar unha sesta.
Na súa orixe, era unha festa para dar grazas a Deus por un bo ano de colleita. Comezou a celebrarse en 1621: os peregrinos do Mayflower que chegaron a EEUU non tiñan comida no seu primeiro inverno en América e poideron sobrevivir grazas á axuda dos indios. Ó ano seguinte, decidiron compartir a súa comida con eles para devolverlles o favor.

“Thanksgiving” is a celebration from North America. It takes place on the fourth Thursday of November in the USA and on the second Monday of October in Canada. The most of the people join their family in order to have dinner. The traditional meal is turkey with cranberry sauce, vegetables, mashed potatoes, corn, pumpkins and so on. And apple and sweet potato pie for dessert. After dinner, it’s very typical to watch an American football game on TV or just take a nap.
Originally it was a celebration to give thanks to God for the harvest. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated in 1621. The Mayflower pilgrims, who arrived in America in 1620, didn’t have enough food for winter and they survived thanks to the help of Indians. Next year, they decided to share their own food with them to express gratitude.
